My EU = Your EU? Differences in the Perception of European Issues Across Geographic Regions

Our perception of the situation in a country or region is strongly influenced by reflection this mass and social media channels. This effect even more pronounced for geographically culturally distant regions, which no firsthand experience available. To avoid information overload, news outlets typically filter available from foreign countries based on expected interest target audiences. Such filtering imposes an inherent bias reporting can create distorted among consumers other regions. might lead to misunderstandings between unsubstantiated political individual decisions (e.g., context migration). In article, we systematically analyze created reports. We consider Europe, precisely European Union (EU) as our zone concern , examine its image (news outlets) Europe(NON-EU), Africa, Asia, Middle-East, America, Oceania. An analysis year 2018 (January–December 2018) published those regions reveals marked differences editorial policies presented narrative when dealing with EU-related news. observe significant variation sentiment polarity reported stories regional outlets. further different subregions large geographical areas, such America. contrasting difference their policies. trend also holds related topics, politics, business, economy, health, international relation.
