Moebius sequence –a multidisciplinary clinical approach
BACKGROUND Moebius Sequence (MS) is a rare disorder defined by bilateral congenital paralysis of the abducens and facial nerves in combination with various odontological, craniofacial, ophthalmological and orthopaedic conditions. The aetiology is still unknown; but both genetic (de novo mutations) and vascular events in utero are reported. The purpose of present study was through a multidiscipl...
متن کاملHepatoerythropoietic porphyria: neuroimaging findings.
CT and MR findings in two patients with hepatoerythropoietic porphyria are presented. CT scans showed atrophy and cortical mineralization at the same level. MR examination performed in one of the two patients showed mainly frontal cortical atrophy and punctate bright signal on T1- and T2-weighted sequences.
متن کاملAnesthesia in a patient with moebius sequence: case report.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Moebius sequence (MS) is a rare paralysis of the VI and VII cranial nerves. Craniofacial changes, which can hinder tracheal intubation considerably, are seen in approximately 90% of the patients. CASE REPORT A male patient, 2 years and 5 months old, with MS, underwent flexible bronchoscopy for evaluation of laryngotracheomalacia. Comorbidities: bronchospasm and inter...
متن کامل[Neuroimaging findings in autism: a brief review].
OBJECTIVE Many structural and functional neuroimaging studies have investigated the neuroanatomical changes and possible pathophysiological pathways in autism. In this review the objective was to assess, with an integrative perspective, recent neuroimaging studies that have contributed to the explanation of the possible pathophysiological pathways in autism. METHOD Relevant attainable studies...
متن کاملNeuroimaging findings in alcohol-related encephalopathies.
OBJECTIVE Our aim was to review the emergent neuroimaging findings of alcohol-related CNS nontraumatic disorders. Alcohol (ethanol) promotes inflammatory processes, increases DNA damage, and creates oxidative stress. In addition, the accompanying thiamine deficiency may lead to Wernicke encephalopathy. Associated changes in serum osmolarity may lead to acute demyelination. CONCLUSION Alcohol-...
