Neuroimaging in paediatric patients with developmental delay

Background: Aim and objectives of the study were to radiologically evaluate paediatric patients with developmental delay (DD), assess relative prevalence abnormal brain MRI, further categorize them based on imaging findings structures affected. The purpose this is diagnose underlying etiology that helps in early treatment amelioration condition, parental counselling regarding outcome child, providing an estimate child’s potential recurrence risk siblings.Methods: 135 age 3 months 15 years DD referred department radiology investigated MRI scans via 1.5T Siemens scanner after making child sleep or sedated. sequences used were: axial T1, T2, FLAIR, DWI, ADC, SWI, PHASE, sagittal T1 coronal FLAIR. CT scan was done only when indicated 128 slice Somatom perspective scanner. Informed consent shall be taken from patient’s parents. Clinical demographic details enrolled noted Performa. Data collected analysed using descriptive inferential statistics.Results: Out children DD, 69.1% (n=92) male 31.9% (n=43) female. Majority these belonged 1 year 2 5 group. About 81.4% (n=110) had MRI. Among findings, 42.9% hypoxic ischemic changes, 6.6% congenital malformations non-specific causes, respectively 4.4% neurodegenerative occlusive neurovascular conditions, 3.7% CSF disorders neoplasms, 2.9% infection associated changes non-traumatic intracranial bleed, 2.2% metabolic 0.7% demyelination. cases ventricular abnormality, followed by corpus callosum.Conclusions: presents a wide spectrum etiologies, clinical features ranging completely normal abnormal. present could establish various morphological appearances into subgroups effective diagnosis, management prognosis determination processes.
