New frontiers in extreme conditions science at synchrotrons and free electron lasers

Abstract Synchrotrons and free electron lasers are unique facilities to probe the atomic structure electronic properties of matter at extreme thermodynamical conditions. In this context, ‘matter pressures temperatures’ was one science drivers for construction low emittance 4th generation synchrotron sources such as Extremely Brilliant Source European Synchrotron Radiation Facility hard x-ray lasers, laser. These new user combine static high pressure dynamic shock compression experiments outstanding brilliance submicron beams. This combination not only increases data-quality but also enlarges tremendously accessible pressure, temperature density space. At same time, large spectrum available complementary diagnostics studies opens unprecedented insights into state extremes. The article aims highlighting a horizon scientific opportunities based on synergy between extremely brilliant synchrotrons lasers.
