Non-Destructive Damage Detection of Structural Joint by Coaxial Correlation Method in 6D Space

Failure of joints can lead to structural collapse. It is vital monitor joint stiffness during operation prevent such failures. This paper proposes a novel method for the quality assessment using coaxial correlation in 6D space. Coaxially placed sensors on either side implemented by 3D accelerometers and gyroscopes with wide frequency range, automatic synchronisation between input signal receivers response averaging are presented. The root mean square (RMS) value from obtained signals convolution proposed as measure similarity two monitoring degradation. method’s effectiveness was tested steel beam splice connection, where it found that RMS space showed direct calculated X, Y, GX, GY axes directions grades joint. concludes nature degradation may change different axes, wrongly chosen wrong conclusions regarding state investigated joint, especially case complex joints, so measurements provide higher reliability result interpretation.
