A bstract By fibering the duality between E 8 × heterotic string on T 3 and M-theory K3, we study duals of compactified G 2 orbifolds form 7 / $$ {\mathbb{Z}}_2^3 ? 2 3 . While compactification space is straightforward, description gauge bundle subtle, involving physics point-like instantons orbifold singularities. comparing groups dual theories, deduce behavior a “half- ” limit, which analog stable degeneration limit F-theory. The backgrounds exhibit that are localized pairs loci, similar to “gauge-locking” phenomenon seen in Ho?ava-Witten compactifications. In this way, geometry translated data background. instanton configuration looks surprising from perspective string, it may be understood as T-dual Spin(32)/? along with winding shifts originating Type I compactification.
