Nuclear memory: Archival, aesthetic, speculative

چکیده
This article assays geographical research into nuclear cultures, and cognate conversations in atomic heritage, toxic waste studies, memory landscape as one way to develop the notion of memory. In doing so, we survey how geographers social scientists have sought think communicate things through three specific modes: archival, aesthetic, speculative. Our central argument is that provides a theoretical orientation for engage with alternative possibilities thinking futures besides anthropocentric notions common sense.

Checkpointing Speculative Distributed Shared Memory
This paper describes a checkpointing mechanism destined for Distributed Shared Memory (DSM) systems with speculative prefetching. Speculation is a general technique involving prediction of the future of a computation, namely accesses to shared objects unavailable on the accessing node (read faults). Thanks to such predictions objects can be fetched before the actual access operation is performe...
متن کاملNanoscale reversible mass transport for archival memory.
We report on a simple electromechanical memory device in which an iron nanoparticle shuttle is controllably positioned within a hollow nanotube channel. The shuttle can be moved reversibly via an electrical write signal and can be positioned with nanoscale precision. The position of the shuttle can be read out directly via a blind resistance read measurement, allowing application as a nonvolati...
متن کاملDetecting proliferating cell nuclear antigen in archival rodent tissues.
The detection of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), an endogenous cell replication marker, has lacked sensitivity in paraffin-embedded archival tissues fixed in formalin. An enhanced immunohistochemical procedure to detect PCNA has been successfully applied to rat and mouse tissues. Tissue sections are heated in a microwave oven in the presence of an antigen-retrieval solution of heavy-...
متن کاملThe Archival Sliver : Power , Memory , and Archives in South Africa ∗
Far from being a simple reflection of reality, archives are constructed windows into personal and collective processes. They at once express and are instruments of prevailing relations of power. Verne Harris makes these arguments through an account of archives and archivists in the context of South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy. The account is deliberately shaped around three ...
متن کاملLanguage Comprehension: Archival Memory or Preparation for Situated Action?
Current paradigms study language comprehension as if archival memory were its primary function. Subjects only receive linguistic material and are later tested on memory for its contents. In contrast, the two target articles in this issue, Glenberg and Robertson (in press) and Roth (in press), examine comprehension as if preparing for situated action were its primary function. Besides receiving ...
