Numerical Investigation of Shaft Gas Injection Operation in Oxygen-Enriched Ironmaking Blast Furnace

Shaft gas injection is considered helpful for realizing an oxygen blast furnace (OBF) to mitigate CO2 emissions substantially. This paper presents a systematic study of the shaft 430-m3 industrial OBF using process model. The operated at 35, 50, or 100 pct enrichment. It combined with reducing through tuyeres achieve reasonable flame temperature. effects rate, position, and temperature are studied fixed hot metal temperature, bosh volume, results show that fuel rate decreases as enrichment increases. also increasing rate/temperature but increases higher position. All these changes slow down when values three variables relatively large. At lower position/rate, replacement ratio coke by injected increases, indicating better utilization energy. However, first maximum then gradually identifying optimum inner flow thermochemical behaviors analyzed in detail. shows reduction collected effect decreased carbon consumption raceway combustion direct reduction. former contributor plays dominating role, benefiting from pre-heating effect. latter indirect enhancement because intensified atmosphere increased These pre-reduction roles quantified elucidate impacts injection.
