Numerical Modelling Techniques for Stability Analysis of Slopes Reinforced with Shallow Roots

چکیده

It is well recognised that plant vegetation and roots are capable of improving the shear strength hillslopes by reinforcing soil resistance. Several key factors influencing level slope reinforcement include root geometry, orientation strength. To assess mechanical performance vegetated slopes using numerical methods, structures can be represented beam pile elements to mirror behaviour. In contrast, modelled indirectly through a cohesion factor, supplying additional surrounding zone. this paper, correlations between these two methods presented, highlighting applicability each technique based on various characteristics. Three types geometries consisting primary tap root, secondary zone main branching process. The results finite element analysis demonstrate variation in factor safety for both with set modelling approaches. A series stability charts presented method, quantifying effects characteristics reinforcement.

Roots and the stability of forested slopes

Root decay after timber cutting can lead to slope failure. In situ measurements of soil with tree roots showed that soil strength increased linearly as root biomass increased. Forests clear-felled 3 years earlier contained about one-third of the root biomass of oldgrowth forests. Nearly all of the roots < 2 mm in diameter were gone from 7-year-old logged areas while about 30 percent of the < 17...

A Numerical Analysis on the Performance of Counterweight Balance on the Stability of Undercut Slopes

One of the important parameters in undercut slopes design is the determination of the maximum stable undercut span. The maximum stable undercut span is a function of slope geometry, the strength parameters of the slope material, condition of discontinuities, underground water condition, etc. However, the desired production capacity and therefore the size of excavating equipment will sometimes a...

Analysis of Reinforced and Un - reinforced Soil Slopes using Abaqus

Assessing the strength of soil slopes and investigating the means for increasing their safety against failure are crucial in construction projects involving large soil masses. Slope stability analyses have traditionally been performed using a limit state approach. However, any presence of reinforcement or local heterogeneity necessitates the use of numerical techniques such as finite element an...

Numerical Techniques for the Shallow Water Equations

In this report we will discuss some numerical techniques for approximating the Shallow Water equations. In particular we will discuss finite difference schemes, adaptations of Roe’s approximate Riemann solver and the Q-Schemes of Bermudez & Vazquez with the objective of accurately approximating the solution of the Shallow Water equations. We consider four different test problems for the Shallow...

The effect of slopes on sand transport - numerical modelling

Most aeolian sediment transport models and experiments have been conducted on flat horizontal surfaces. Very little numerical or analytical research has been carried out for aeolian sand transport on slopes. The current work presents numerical modelling of saltating sand for a climbing dune which has a slope angle of 20”. The model utilised wind fields predicted from the FAA complex terrain mod...
