Invariant Curves for Numerical Methods

The problem of finding periodic orbits of dynamical systems numerically is considered. It is shown that if a convergent, strongly stable, multi-step method is employed then under some suitable conditions, there exist invariant curves. The result also shows that the rates of convergence toward the invariant curves are roughly the same for different methods and different step sizes. Introduction....

Marden theorem and Poncelet-Darboux curves

The Marden theorem of geometry of polynomials and the great Poncelet theorem from projective geometry of conics by their classical beauty occupy very special places. Our main aim is to present a strong and unexpected relationship between the two theorems. We establish a dynamical equivalence between the full Marden theorem and the Poncelet-Darboux theorem. By introducing a class of isofocal def...

Numerical Approximation of Rough Invariant Curves of Planar Maps

In this paper we describe a simple algorithm for the approximation of an invariant curve Γ of a planar map f . We are particularly interested in the case where Γ is attracting but not smooth. Results for the delayed logistic map illustrate the performance of the algorithm.

Corners of multidimensional numerical ranges

The n-dimensional numerical range of a densely defined linear operator T on a complex Hilbert space H is the set of vectors in Cn of the form (〈Te1, e1〉, . . . , 〈Ten, en〉), where e1, . . . , en is an orthonormal system in H, consisting of vectors from the domain of T . We prove that the components of every corner point of the n-dimensional numerical range are eigenvalues of T .

Numerical ranges of composition operators

Composition operators on the Hilbert Hardy space of the unit disk are considered. The shape of their numerical range is determined in the case when the symbol of the composition operator is a monomial or an inner function fixing 0. Several results on the numerical range of composition operators of arbitrary symbol are obtained. It is proved that 1 is an extreme boundary point if and only if 0 i...
