Oblique Shock Waves and Shock Reflection ∗ †
Oblique and conical shock waves are generated as solid projectile flies supersonically, or as a planar shock wave is reflected along a ramp. We study the stability of oblique shock waves for full Euler system of equations in gas-dynamics. The stability criterion is applied to the discussion of regular shock reflection phenomena and the transition of a regular shock reflection to Mach reflection.
متن کاملFocusing of weak shock waves and the von Neumann paradox of oblique shock reflection
Some phenomena involving intersection of weak shock waves at small angles are considered: the focusing of curved fronts at a&es, the transition between regular and irregular reflection of oblique shock waves on rigid walls and the diffraction patterns arising behind obstacles. The intersection of three shock waves plays a central role in most of these phenomena, giving rise to the von Neumann p...
متن کاملSymmetry of spherically converging shock waves through reflection, relating to the shock ignition fusion energy scheme.
We examine the properties of perturbed spherically imploding shock waves in an ideal fluid through the collapse, bounce, and development into an outgoing shock wave. We find broad conservation of the size and shape of ingoing and outgoing perturbations when viewed at the same radius. The outgoing shock recovers the velocity of the unperturbed shock outside the strongly distorted core. The resul...
متن کاملSubclavian oblique-axis catheterization technique
We read with interest the work by Saugel et al. [1] about ultrasound-guided central venous catheter placement. In their work the authors accurately describe “in-plane” and “out of plane” techniques for central venous catheter access. However, they describe only briefly the oblique-axis technique and for this approach only articles about internal venous jugular catheterization are cited [2, 3] a...
متن کاملDirectional Derivatives of Oblique Reflection Maps
Given an oblique reflection map Γ and functions ψ, χ ∈ Dlim (the space of R -valued functions that have finite left and right limits at every point), the directional derivative ∇χΓ(ψ) of Γ along χ, evaluated at ψ, is defined to be the pointwise limit, as ε ↓ 0, of the family of functions ∇εχΓ(ψ) . = ε [Γ(ψ + εχ) − Γ(ψ)]. Directional derivatives are shown to exist and lie in Dlim for oblique ref...
