Observation of nonlinearity-controlled switching of topological edge states

چکیده
We report the experimental observation of periodic switching topological edge states between two dimerized fs-laser written waveguide arrays. Switching occurs due to overlap modal fields from forbidden gap, when they are simultaneously present in arrays brought into close proximity. found that phenomenon for both strongly and weakly localized rate increases with decreasing spacing When contact nontopological ones, gap does not occur, while one observes either formation nearly stationary interface mode or asymmetric diffraction array depending on position initial excitation. can be controlled even completely arrested by increasing peak power input signal, as we observed different spacings.

متن کاملSwitching spin and charge between edge states in topological insulator constrictions.
We show how the coupling between opposite edge states, which overlap in a constriction made of the topological insulator mercury telluride (HgTe), can be employed both for steering the charge flow into different edge modes and for controlled spin switching. Unlike in a conventional spin transistor, the switching does not rely on a tunable Rashba spin-orbit interaction, but on the energy depende...

Topological features—global properties not discernible locally—emerge in systems ranging from liquid crystals to magnets to fractional quantum Hall systems. A deeper understanding of the role of topology in physics has led to a new class of matter—topologically ordered systems. The best known examples are quantum Hall effects, where insensitivity to local properties manifests itself as conducta...
