Analysis of Lattice Boltzmann Boundary Conditions
In this dissertation, we investigate a class of standard linear and nonlinear lattice Boltzmann methods from the point of view of mathematical analysis. First we study the consistency of the lattice Boltzmann method on a bounded domain by means of asymptotic analysis. From the analysis of the lattice Boltzmann update rule, we find a representation of the lattice Boltzmann solutions in form of t...
متن کاملBoundary conditions for the lattice Boltzmann method
Based on the no-slip boundary condition for walls at rest for the lattice Boltzmann Bathnagar-Gross-Krook method by J.C.G. Verschaeve [10], a no-slip boundary condition for walls with a tangential movement is derived. Numerical tests verify that the present boundary condition is second order accurate and stable for relaxation frequencies close to two.
متن کاملLees-Edwards boundary conditions for Lattice Boltzmann
Lees-Edwards boundary conditions (LEbc) for Molecular Dynamics simulations [1] are an extension of the well known periodic boundary conditions and allow the simulation of bulk systems in a simple shear flow. We show how the idea of LEbc can be implemented in lattice Boltzmann simulations and how LEbc can be used to overcome the problem of a maximum shear rate that is limited to less then 1/Ly (...
متن کاملImmersed Boundary-finite Difference Lattice Boltzmann Method Using Two Relaxation Times
It is known that velocity fields computed by using an immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method (IB-LBM) with a single-relaxation time (SRT) show unphysical distortion when the relaxation time, τ, is high. The authors proposed an immersed boundary-finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (IB-FDLBM) using SRT to predict liquid-solid flows. In simulations with IB-FDLBM, numerical errors in the...
متن کاملIncompressible limits of lattice Boltzmann equations using multiple relaxation times
Lattice Boltzmann equations using multiple relaxation times are intended to be more stable than those using a single relaxation time. The additional relaxation times may be adjusted to suppress non-hydrodynamic modes that do not appear directly in the continuum equations, but may contribute to instabilities on the grid scale. If these relaxation times are fixed in lattice units, as in previous ...
