On the mechanical properties of melt-blended nylon 6/ethylene-octene copolymer/graphene nanoplatelet nanocomposites

Ethylene-octene copolymer (EOC) with a loading level of 20 wt%, maleated EOC (EOC-g-MA) 3 wt% and graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) at four different levels, i.e., 5 10 15 were added to nylon 6 prepare nanocomposites using twin-screw extruder high shear rate screw running 300 rpm. Increased stiffness was observed the addition GnPs while tensile strength only slightly influenced. Addition into 6/EOC blend caused either reduction in Charpy impact or it remained unaffected. Similarly, Izod compatibilized increased that blend-based decreased. An increase compressive blend. an fracture toughness due their influence on morphology mechanisms. This study shows simultaneous surface area modifier neat can help achieve enhancement tailoring toughness. • Adding stiff nanoparticles thermoplastic elastomer balance mechanical properties. Mechanical properties are enhanced through optimal nanoparticle controlled processing conditions.
