One-way propagation of topologically non-conventional bulk transverse elastic waves in infinite and finite superlattices: Application to low-loss acoustic wave devices

چکیده
Static superlattices that do not break time-reversal symmetry can support robust topologically protected elastic waves with non-zero amplitude in the forward propagating direction but zero opposite direction. We form a prototypical acoustic wave device by sandwiching finite superlattice supports one-way between input and detector layers. Compared to conventional waves, provide significant benefit for reducing return loss of device. Applications of Surface Acoustic and Shallow Bulk Acoustic Wave Devices
Applications of surface acoustic wave (SA W) and shallow bulk acoustic wave (SBA W) devices are reviewed. SA W-device coverage includes delay lines and filters operating at selected frequencies in the range from about 10 MHz to 11 GHz, modeling with singlecrystal piezoelectrics and layered structures, resonators and lowloss filters, comb filters and multiplexers, antenna duplexers, harmonic dev...
متن کاملWave Propagation Approach to Fluid Filled Submerged Visco-Elastic Finite Cylindrical Shells
Multi-layer orthotropic finite cylindrical shells with a viscoelastic core in contact with fluids are gaining increasing importance in engineering. Vibrational control of these structures is essential at higher modes. In this study, an extended version of the wave propagation approach using first-order shear deformation theory of shell motion is employed to examine the free vibration of damped ...
متن کاملMatrix Theory of Elastic Wave Scattering: Application to Scattering of Transverse Waves
New calculations of elastic vtave scattering usin9 Visscher's matrix theory have transverse waves incident on axially symmetric defects. Longitudinal incident waves considered with the results in agreement with those obtained previously by Visscher. interesting features for incident transverse waves will be presented as well as some aspects of the calculation (e.g. convergence, accuracy, and co...
متن کاملNonlinear Bulk Elastic Waves in Layered Solid Wave Guides
During the last decade we have performed theoretical investigations and successful experimental research demonstrating the existence and main properties of bulk strain solitary waves in nonlinearly elastic solid wave guides. Following the topic we present preliminary results on strain soliton propagation in layered wave guides made of PMMA. The obvious physical relevance of data on strain solit...
متن کاملPropagation of elastic waves through textured polycrystals: application to ice
The propagation of elastic waves in polycrystals is revisited, with an emphasis on configurations relevant to the study of ice. Randomly oriented hexagonal single crystals are considered with specific, non-uniform, probability distributions for their major axis. Three typical textures or fabrics (i.e. preferred grain orientations) are studied in detail: one cluster fabric and two girdle fabrics...
