Online Monitoring of Surface Quality for Diagnostic Features in 3D Printing

Investigation into non-destructive testing and evaluation of 3D printing quality is relevant due to the lack reliable methods for defects, including surface printed parts. The article shows how it possible increase efficiency online monitoring technological process through use an optical contactless high-performance measuring instrument. A comparative study contact (R130 roughness tester) non-contact (LJ-8020 laser profiler) determining height irregularities on a steel reference specimen was performed. It found that, in range operation method (Ra 0.03–6.3 µm Rz 0.2–18.5 µm), errors standard indicators Ra were 23.7% 1.6%, respectively. Similar studies performed with three defect-free samples made plastic polylactic acid (PLA), within specified method. corresponding increased amounted 65.96% 76.32%. Finally, investigations carried out using only different types defects. that following power spectral density (PSD) estimates can be used as diagnostic features defects: Variance Median. These generalized are most sensitive defects object printing.
