Opportunities for carbon sequestration in intensive soft fruit production systems

چکیده

Abstract The historical contribution of agriculture to human-induced climate change is indisputable; the removal natural vegetation and soil cultivation feed growing human population has resulted in a substantial carbon transfer atmosphere. While maintaining their food production capacity, soft fruit systems now have an opportunity utilise recent technology enhance sequestration capacity. We use example farm South-East England illustrate how crop system can be optimised for storage. performed audit stocks tree biomass show that it imperative plan rotation establish (semi) permanent inter-row strips will remain situ even if main replaced. These should covered with grassland vegetation, preferable deeper rooting grass species mixed supporting nitrogen fixation. Finally, mowing cuttings left hedgerows windbreaks expanded across farm. Modern storage while commercially relevant levels productivity.

Carbon sequestration opportunities in organic agriculture

At the present time, soil carbon sequestration is of paramount importance to address the imminent threat of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is looming large on the very survival and existence of the biome. The quantum of all carbon everywhere in the globe is same and fixed. It exists to the tune of 800 Pg in the atmosphere, 1700 Pg in terrestrial and 38000 Pg in aquatic ecosystem. E...

Carbon sequestration in tropical agroforestry systems

Removing atmospheric carbon (C) and storing it in the terrestrial biosphere is one of the options, which have been proposed to compensate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Agricultural lands are believed to be a major potential sink and could absorb large quantities of C if trees are reintroduced to these systems and judiciously managed together with crops and/or animals. Thus, the importance of ...

Carbon sequestration in sugarcane plant and soil with different cultivation systems

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is a multi-purpose crop, mainly planted in South-western (SW) parts of Iran. However, the capability of sugarcane farms to sequestrate carbon into soil and plant is not well documented. In this research, the carbon sequestration in sugarcane plant and soil in a ratooning traditional cultivation system at the Amirkabir Sugarcane Agro-Industry Complex...

Soil carbon sequestration in rainfed production systems in the semiarid tropics of India.

Severe soil organic carbon (SOC) depletion is a major constraint in rainfed agroecosystems in India because it directly influences soil quality, crop productivity and sustainability. The magnitude of soil organic, inorganic and total carbon stocks in the semi-arid bioclimate is estimated at 2.9, 1.9 and 4.8 Pg respectively. Sorghum, finger millet, pearl millet, maize, rice, groundnut, soybean, ...
