Optimal Convergence Rate in the Quantum Zeno Effect for Open Quantum Systems in Infinite Dimensions

چکیده

Abstract In open quantum systems, the Zeno effect consists in frequent applications of a given operation, e.g., measurement, used to restrict time evolution (due, for example, decoherence) states that are invariant under operation. an abstract setting, sequence is alternating concatenation contraction operator (quantum operation) and $$C_0$$ C 0 -contraction semigroup (time evolution) on Banach space. this paper, we prove optimal convergence rate $$\mathcal {O}(\tfrac{1}{n})$$ O ( 1 n ) by proving explicit error bounds. For that, derive new Chernoff-type $$\sqrt{n}$$ -Lemma, which believe be independent interest. Moreover, generalize result two directions: We weaken assumptions generator, inducing dynamics generated unbounded improve uniform topology. Finally, provide large class examples arising from our assumptions.

Zeno dynamics in quantum open systems

Quantum Zeno effect shows that frequent observations can slow down or even stop the unitary time evolution of an unstable quantum system. This effect can also be regarded as a physical consequence of the statistical indistinguishability of neighboring quantum states. The accessibility of quantum Zeno dynamics under unitary time evolution can be quantitatively estimated by quantum Zeno time in t...

Quantum Zeno effect for exponentially decaying systems.

The quantum Zeno effect--suppression of decay by frequent measurements--was believed to occur only when the response of the detector is so quick that the initial tiny deviation from the exponential decay law is detectable. However, we show that it can occur even for exactly exponentially decaying systems, for which this condition is never satisfied, by considering a realistic case where the det...

Inverse Quantum Zeno Effect in Quantum Oscillations

It is shown that inverse quantum Zeno effect (IZE) may exist in a three-level system with Rabi oscillations between discrete atomic states. The experiment to observe IZE in such a system is proposed. PACS numbers: 03.65.Bz

Quantum control in infinite dimensions

Accurate control of quantum evolution is an essential requirement for quantum state engineering, laser chemistry, quantum information and quantum computing. Conditions of controllability for systems with a finite number of energy levels have been extensively studied. By contrast, results for controllability in infinite dimensions have been mostly negative, stating that full control cannot be ac...

Understanding the quantum Zeno effect

The quantum Zeno effect consists in the hindrance of the evolution of a quantum system that is very frequently monitored and found to be in its initial state at every single measurement. On the basis of the correct formula for the survival probability, i.e. the probability of finding the system in its initial state at every single measurement, we critically analyze a recent proposal and experim...
