Optimizing Fuel Consumption in Thrust Allocation for Marine Dynamic Positioning Systems

چکیده
In offshore maritime operations, automated systems capable of maintaining the vessel’s position and heading using its own propellers thrusters to compensate exogenous disturbances, like wind, waves, currents, are referred as marine dynamic positioning (DP) systems. DP play a central role in several such drilling, pipe-laying, coring, ocean observation. These operations primary cause fuel consumption, having strong impact on overall footprint vessel. For this reason, we will face problem optimal thrust allocation an over-actuated vessel maintain with minimal consumption. Fuel Optimal Thrust Allocation In Dynamic Positioning
This thesis gives a short introduction to the Dynamic Positioning (DP) domain and focuses on developing a fuel optimal thrust allocation algorithm for marine DP vessels with a diesel electric power plant. Obtained data is used to develop a static model for the fuel consumption of a diesel generator, as a function of its produced power. This model is used to formulate a convex Quadratic Programm...
متن کاملQuadratic Programming Thrust Allocation and Management for Dynamic Positioning Ships
To solve the complex thrust allocation problems of dynamic positioning ship with azimuth thrusters, the quadratic programming thrust allocation and management system was built. The power optimal thrust allocation was formulated as a quadratic programming problem by the linear treatments of inequality constraints and the optimal solution could be found in a finite amount of time. And some influe...
متن کاملOptimal Thrust Allocation Methods for Dynamic Positioning of Ships
The first Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems emerged in the 1960’s from the need for deep water drilling by the offshore oil and gas industry, as conventional mooring systems, like a jack-up barge or an anchored rig, can only be used in shallow waters. GustoMSC has been developing DP drill ships since the early 1970’s and it is still one of their core businesses. DP systems automatically control ...
متن کاملTransient power control in dynamic positioning - governor feedforward and dynamic thrust allocation
A thrust allocation algorithm with capability to assist the power management system on a vessel with diesel-electric propulsion has recently been proposed. In the work presented here, the results show that the use of this thrust allocation algorithm produces a signi cant improvement in the stability of the electric bus frequency in the presence of large power load variations, as long as those l...
متن کاملLinear Modelling of Marine Vessels Fuel Consumption for Ration of Subsidized Fuel
An approach to deal with the phenomenon of maritime fuel smuggling is to control the quantity of fuel that is supplied to vessels. For the same reason, fuel is delivered to marine vessels in Iran in accordance with the ration defined by the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC). The ration is determined by a fuel consumption formula defined by the Food and Agriculture Orga...
