Optimum Nitrogen Application Promotes Sweetpotato Storage Root Initiation

چکیده
Storage root formation of sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam) is a complex developmental process relating to the activity cambium. Little information available on relationship between nitrogen (N) application levels and initiation development storage roots (SRs). This study aims examine how N rates promoted/inhibited (SRs) for cultivar ‘Orleans’ during first 8 weeks after planting. Cuttings were grown in coarse river sand culture supplied with modified Hoagland nutrient solution at four different (0 (N0), 50 (N50), 100 (N100) or 200 (N200) mg L?1) N. The results showed that N100 treatment promoted primary secondary cambium, resulting significant higher rate SR 21 56 days transplanting (DAT). Due demand SRs, N200 displayed faster growth, acquisition highest efficiency use 35 DAT, but number per plant remained insignificantly lower than when differentiation adventitious was mostly completed (49 DAT), suggesting irreversible an effect initiation, which eventually affects number. suggested optimal substrate level following should be considered fertilisation scheme.

Variation in Virus Symptom Development and Root Architecture Attributes at the Onset of Storage Root Initiation in ‘Beauregard’ Sweetpotato Plants Grown with or without Nitrogen
It has been shown that virus infections, often symptomless, significantly limit sweetpotato productivity, especially in regions characterized by low input agricultural systems. In sweetpotatoes, the successful emergence and development of lateral roots (LRs), the main determinant of root architecture, determines the competency of adventitious roots to undergo storage root initiation. This study...
متن کاملEffect of nitrogen on resistance of sweet potato to sweetpotato weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and on storage root chemistry.
The effects of nitrogen fertilizer on sweet potato, Ipomoea batatas (L.) Poir., resistance to the sweetpotato weevil, Cylas formicarius elegantulus (Summers), was studied. Adult weevil feeding and oviposition preference, larval survival, and pupal weight were used as measures of sweet potato resistance. Sweet potato resin glycosides and caffeic acid concentrations in the periderm tissue of stor...
متن کاملAuxin transport promotes Arabidopsis lateral root initiation.
Lateral root development in Arabidopsis provides a model for the study of hormonal signals that regulate postembryonic organogenesis in higher plants. Lateral roots originate from pairs of pericycle cells, in several cell files positioned opposite the xylem pole, that initiate a series of asymmetric, transverse divisions. The auxin transport inhibitor N-1-naphthylphthalamic acid (NPA) arrests l...

The role of an expansin gene (IbEXP1) in the formation of the storage root (SR) was investigated by expression pattern analysis and characterization of IbEXP1-antisense sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas cv. Yulmi) plants in an attempt to elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying SR development in sweetpotato. The transcript level of IbEXP1 was high in the fibrous root (FR) and petiole at the FR s...
