Outcomes of Tuberculous Meningitis Patients with or without Hydrocephalus from a Tertiary Hospital in West Java, Indonesia

Background: Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is a severe form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. One the most common complications TBM hydrocephalus, with higher risk mortality. This study aimed to evaluate outcome among patients or without hydrocephalus.Methods: was retrospective cross-sectional comparative analytical study. A total sampling employed based on number traceable resumes treated at Department Neurology Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, Indonesia in 2018. Results: Of 127 data patients, 55 (43.3%) had and 72 (56.7%) did not. The median age hydrocephalus 34 years (IQR 26–45) 35 24–44), respectively. Decreased consciousness dominated clinical symptoms for 94.5% group 84.7% non-hydrocephalus group. Hospital-acquired pneumonia occurred mainly (29.1%), whereas urinary tract infections (18%). There significant difference between (p=0.005). Mortality compared those hydrocephalus.Conclusions: worse than as reflected by grade TBM, mortality rate, lower good recovery upon treatment administration. Therefore, prompt diagnosis are needed improve survival hydrocephalus.
