Overview and Prevention of Complications During Biportal Endoscopic Cervical Spine Surgery

Purpose: Biportal endoscopic spine surgery is becoming popular for various spinal pathologies, including cervical and thoracic diseases. However, the safety of biportal (BECSS) has not been fully investigated, inexperienced surgeons can cause serious complications. The study aimed to evaluate complications BECSS identify tips preventing them through a literature review retrospective analysis case series. Methods: Articles on were electronically retrieved from multiple databases, with inclusion criteria controlled series designs, detailed reporting and/or reoperations, use BECSS. excluded simple articles reports. clinical data 45 patients who underwent at our institution collected, information was extracted demographic features, type, surgical level, surgery-related complications, reoperations their reasons.Results: total 67 studies 5 which 6 included after screening. In total, 227 cases identified, overall complication rate 0%–14.3%. Complications dura tearing, symptom recurrence, incomplete decompression, postoperative epidural hematoma, transient paralysis. Reoperation performed in 3 cases.Conclusion: similar rates those other techniques. It important provide extensive education, share knowledge experience, conduct further research minimize improve outcomes patients, as procedures.
