چکیده

Abstract Aims Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) has been implicated in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Intermittent hypoxia and arousals may contribute to mechanisms leading accumulation amyloid beta plaques intraneuronal neurofibrillary tangles seen AD. Treatment with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) improves symptoms cardiovascular sequalae OSA, also mitigate progression We investigated, patients moderate severe whether CPAP compliance altered cognitive test scores. Methods Cognitive testing Addenbrooke’s Examination-Revised Version (ACE-R) was performed before commencing repeated after 3 5 years. Student’s independent t-test used compare changes ACE-R between compliant non-complaint groups based on usage greater than 4 hours/day. Results 30 subjects, mean age 67 years (SD=6.4), had baseline 90 (SD=4.75). At follow up, treatment subjects demonstrated improvement scores memory visuospatial domains a 1.5 points p=0.01 95% CI [0.33, 2.67], cognition 0.95 [0.23, 1.7]. Scores for non-compliant showed no significant difference over time. Conclusion Sustained use time results statistically scores, subdomains cognition. However, clinical significance these findings is unclear requires further research, as remained normative range.

Long-term CPAP Compliance in Women with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), but compliance and variables involved in longterm CPAP adherence in women with OSA are unknown. We performed an observational study including all consecutive women diagnosed with OSA who started CPAP treatment in two Spanish teaching hospitals between 1999 and 2007 and were followed-up unti...

Non-CPAP therapies in obstructive sleep apnoea.

In view of the high prevalence and the relevant impairment of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) lots of methods are offered which promise definitive cures for or relevant improvement of OSAS. This report summarises the efficacy of alternative treatment options in OSAS. An interdisciplinary European Respiratory Society task force evaluated the scientific literature according...

Compliance with CPAP therapy in patients with the sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome.

BACKGROUND Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the treatment of choice for the sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome. Compliance with this relatively obtrusive therapy has not been well studied. METHODS Usage of CPAP was investigated in 54 patients with sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome (median 36 (range 7-129) apnoeas + hypopnoeas/hour slept) over the first 1-3 months after startin...

Adherence to CPAP in obstructive sleep apnoea.

Nursing implications Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition whereby breathing is interrupted during sleep. Patients with this condition spend less time in the deep sleep phase of the sleep cycle, leading to daytime sleepiness and problems engaging in activities of daily living. Continuous positive airway pressure provides a constant stream of pressurised air, with the aim of maintaining ...
