Parameterization of Mangrove Root Structure of Rhizophora stylosa in Coastal Hydrodynamic Model

چکیده
Mangroves are able to attenuate tsunamis, storm surges, and waves. Their protective function against wave disasters is gaining increasing attention as a typical example of the green infrastructure/Eco-DRR (Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction) in coastal regions. Hydrodynamic models commonly employed additional friction or drag forcing term represent mangrove-induced energy dissipation for simplicity. The well-known Morison-type formula (Morison et al. 1950) has been considered appropriate model vegetation-induced resistance which information geometric properties mangroves, including root system, needed. However, idealized vegetation configurations mainly were applied existing numerical models, only few field observations provided empirical parameterization complex mangrove structures. In this study, we conducted surveys on Iriomote Island Okinawa, Japan, Tarawa, Kiribati. We measured representative parameters Rhizophora stylosa, their system. By analyzing data, significant correlations hydrodynamic modeling found among key such trunk diameter at breast height ( DBH ), tree H , prop roots, projected areas also discussed correlation these factors with age. These relationships summarized end.

Antioxidative flavan-3-ol glycosides from stems of Rhizophora stylosa.
Two flavan-3-ol glycosides together with seven flavan-3-ols were isolated from stems of the mangrove plant, Rhizophora stylosa. Their structures were established as glabraoside A (7) and glabraoside B (8) by spectroscopic and chemical methods. The antioxidative activity of these isolated compounds evaluated by the diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging reaction was higher than that of...
متن کاملChromosomal Pairing and Pollen Viability in Rhizophora mangle and Rhizophora stylosa Hybrids
Two prominent mangrove species of Fiji, Rhizophora mangle, Linn. Rhizophora stylosa Griff and their puative hyubrid (R x selala) were analysed for chromosome number and pairing. Both parental species and their hybrid possess a diploid number of (2n) = 36 chromosomes. Regular 18 bivalents were observed in two species but the hybrid lacked proper chromosome pairing during meiosis. Analysis of tet...

Aerial roots in Rhizophora rise from stems, branches, and secondarily thickened, anchored, aerial roots, but only after injury from unanchored aerial roots. Lateral subterranean roots are abundantly developed upon penetration of a mud substrate whereupon the histology of the root undergoes marked and abrupt changes so that chlorophyll is no longer developed, trichosclereids no longer differenti...
متن کاملFine root respiration in the mangrove Rhizophora mangle over variation in forest stature and nutrient availability.
Root respiration uses a significant proportion of photosynthetically fixed carbon (C) and is a globally important source of C liberated from soils. Mangroves, which are an important and productive forest resource in many tropical and subtropical countries, sustain a high ratio of root to shoot biomass which may indicate that root respiration is a particularly important component in mangrove for...
