Partial Surface Texturing in Hydrodynamic Lubrication: A CFD-Based Investigation

The present study investigates the effect of partial surface texturing, containing large number micro-dimples, in lubrication mechanisms. A CFD model is applied to examine influence texturing on pressure and velocity distribution flow between mating surfaces with relative motion or drop. Various parameters were analyzed. results indicate that equivalent volume step effectively simulates for a wide range when untextured pressure-drop-induced flows, as less effective than by margin under 20%.
