Participation in Climate Change Adaptation Programs in Nepal: An Intersectional Study

In the social discourses of climate change, women are perceived both as vulnerable victims and active players in adaptation. These perceptions along with inclusion policies have led change adaptation programs to seek women’s participation. However, ‘women’ is not a homogenous category. Intra-gender power differences terms castes ethnicities can play an important role, especially Nepal its long history institutionalized disparities. Using qualitative methodology, this study explores relationships between gender, caste ethnicity shaping participation southern plains Nepal. We conclude that gender identities generally facilitated their affirmative action for marginalized groups, some extent, gave from these groups spaces participate programs. relations associated caste/ethnic identity created hindrances women, implying they had more restricted access than majority groups.
