Pb2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+ removal by designed functionalized swelling high-charged micas

The increasing accumulation of toxic heavy metals in the environment has generated need efficient removal systems, being adsorption method most popular one applied aqueous solutions. Of particular concern is case Pb 2+ , Cd and Hg due to their high potential hazard. In this paper, we describe feasibility a new family nanomaterials, swelling charge micas, these cations from Batch experiments were carried out as-made Na M n after functionalization with ethylammonium, EA-M mercaptoethylammonium, MEA-M . results have demonstrated that all them are metal adsorbents, Na-M2 best adsorbent for and, MEA-M2 • Raw functionalized Mica-n adsorb more efficiently than natural clays. efficiency Mica-2 higher Mica-4. main mechanism cation exchange reaction. favored specific sites such as thiol groups.
