Pedestrian reported activity and information preference while waiting at a red light

The development of pedestrian signal lights made it a promising information center to distribute assist safe road crossing and provide “controlled engagement” improve waiting experience. To determine what types display, this study surveyed 555 pedestrians on frequency their existing activities while at red light preference several based results structured interview. Pedestrian reported 14 activities, from which the four categories with decreasing were extracted factor analysis: scene perception, recreation, mental activity, anxiety activity. participants more activity have higher need for external displayed lights. Overall, among 24 specific analysis, preferred contextual most, less learning appreciation information. least is entertainment information, within they even disliked news general commercial ads ( vs. local ones). There are also individual differences in these categories. findings implications design roadside as well advanced traveller system general.
