Performance Analysis and Comparison of Clipped and Filtered OFDM Systems With Iterative Distortion Recovery Techniques

A well-known drawback of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is its signal with high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Among a number PAPR reduction techniques, clipping and filtering (CAF) the simplest approach, which effectively reduces band-limited OFDM signals at cost increasing in-band distortion. In order to mitigate performance degradation caused by distortion, several iterative distortion recovery techniques have been proposed in literature, they are largely classified into time-domain (TD) frequency-domain (FD) compensation approaches: The former latter represented decision-aided reconstruction (DAR) noise cancellation (CNC), respectively. To date, however, their theoretical limits not studied. this work, we revisit CAF derive closed-form signal-to-distortion (SDR) expression. Furthermore, introduce model for characterizing CAF, based on make comparison between two approaches. Theoretical analysis simulations terms achievable symbol error rate (SER) reveal that, unlike FD counterpart, TD may suffer from unrecoverable when after applied transmitter.
