performance assessment of gridded snow products in the Upper Euphrates

Snow observations are important in many mountain areas to quantify the water stored snowpacks and predicting runoff during melting period. In this study we compare performance of five different regional-scale gridded snow products reproduce equivalent (SWE) Upper Euphrates region (Karasu Basin, 10,275 km2), with from automatic weather stations catchment through Taylor diagrams. The compared ERA5, ERA5-Land, MERRA-2, data a dynamical downscaling ERA-5 (period 2000-2018) SWE generated microwave satellite (SWE-E(H13) period 2013-2015 product EUMETSAT H SAF project). H13 presented deficiencies terms not being able spatial temporal variability snowpack. and, particular, ERA-Land products, at 30 9 km grid size, respectively, showed good reproducing evolution four available observation sites. MERRA2 50 resolution lower skills above-mentioned products. Resulting WRF 10 did show any improvement respect global datasets. impossibility testing configurations due lack computational constraints test parametrizations may be reasons explain low although they remain speculative.
