Performance optimisation of pick and transport robot in a picker to parts order picking system: a human-centric approach

Picker to parts order picking (OP) systems are one of the most labour-intensive warehouse operations, accounting for 55% expenses in e-commerce industry. For this reason, industry has invested fully automated and robotised warehouses. However, these solutions very expensive. Furthermore, with advent Industry 5.0 a human-centric focus, OP system's automation should be designed implemented ways improve working conditions pickers rather than replacing them completely. A pick transport robot (PTR) is solution which compatible 5.0. An example such Grab™ by SOLWR. Previous studies have barely investigated human factor effects using PTRs while optimising performance systems. This research develops mathematical model optimise picker system terms productivity, quality, well-being pickers.
