Performance Optimization of Luminescent Solar Concentrators under Several Shading Conditions

The need of clean energy is constantly increasing, and Building Integrated PhotoVoltaic (BIPV) technologies represent valuable assets to expand even further the photovoltaic market. Thanks BIPVs. a new concept local electric microgrid will probably emerge as this kind technology can turn buildings from wells sources. Luminescent Solar Concentrator (LSC) panels are perfect achieve goal, indeed, contrary standard flat (PV) modules, they be exploited in transparent or semi-transparent building façades. Thus, purpose work was optimization performance LSC for BIPV applications. Being an application-oriented study, we paid particular attention scalability assembling process use slabs functionalized only with widely available organic commercial dyes high-performance silicon solar cells. electrical optical were firstly simulated then, once most promising configurations identified, respective prototypes assembled compare simulation results experimental measurements. These analyses performed both under uniform illumination some relevant shading typical devices operating conditions. obtained show that employ PV cells coupled reflective films yield higher efficiency than traditional system placed along four sides.
