چکیده
We study a form of threshold matching in fundraising where donations above certain are topped up with fixed amount. show theoretically that can induce crowding if appropriately personalized. In field experiment, we explore how thresholds should be chosen depending on past donations. The optimal choice is rather bold, approximately 75% Additionally, set for new donors as function their personal characteristics and demonstrate the benefits personalization opposed to setting general applies all recipients call.

Matching Donations in a Field Experiment
This paper tests the effect of matching charitable giving in a randomized field experiment. The students at the University of Zurich have to decide, each semester, whether they wish to contribute to two social funds. The donations of the treatment group are matched by contributions of an anonymous donor. The results support the hypothesis that a matching mechanism increases contributions to a p...

Matching donations without crowding out? Some theoretical considerations, a field, and a lab experiment* Is there a way of matching donations that avoids crowding out? We introduce a novel matching method where the matched amount is allocated to a different project, present some simple theoretical considerations that predict reduced crowding out or more crowding in (depending on the degree of s...
