Qualitative Spatial Reasoning: Cardinal Directions as an Example
Geographers use spatial reasoning extensively in large-scale spaces, i.e., spaces that cannot be seen or understood from a single point of view. Spatial reasoning differentiates several spatial relations, e.g. topological or metric relations, and is typically formalized using a Cartesian coordinate system and vector algebra. This quantitative processing of information is clearly different from ...
متن کاملRelating Strong Spatial Cognition to Symbolic Problem Solving - An Example
In this note, we discuss and analyse a shortest path finding approach using strong spatial cognition. It is compared with a symbolic graph-based algorithm and it is shown that both approaches are similar with respect to structure and complexity. Nevertheless, the strong spatial cognition solution is easy to understand and even pops up immediately when one has to solve the problem.
متن کاملBayesian improvement of the phantom voters rule: An example of dichotomic communication
This paper studies communication mechanisms for two players with symmetric single-peaked preferences. The peaks are privately known and drawn from a uniform distribution before the agents take a collective decision. While for the general setting Moulin (1980) characterized all strategy-proof mechanisms, much remains to be known in the Bayesian framework. The example consists of a dichotomic mec...
متن کاملThe Entrepreneurial Spirit of Rural Women: An Example from Iran
This study aimed to investigate the personality characteristics related to entrepreneurial spirit of rural women. The statistical population of the study included rural women in the central district of Nimrooz County in Sistan and Baluchistan Province (N=406). Krejcie and Morgan Table was used to determine the sample size. To this end, 186 participants were selected through stratified random sa...
متن کاملAn improved Virtual Torso phantom
INTRODUCTION Lung counting has many sources of uncertainty that can impact on the activity estimate such as different deposition patterns of radioactivity in the lung, rib size and placement, chest wall composition and profile, effect of detector size and thickness. For example, if a lung counter is calibrated using a lung set that has the activity homogeneously distributed throughout the tissu...
