Phenolic Rich Extract Of Finger Millet Bran Attenuates Lung Inflammation And Fibrosis In A Mouse Model Of Ovalbumin Induced Asthma

Asthma is a serious global health risk characterized by chronic airway inflammation of lungs with infiltration inflammatory cells, enhanced mucus secretion and narrowing airways that leads to poor respiratory functions. The clinical symptoms asthma includes recurrent episodes cough, shortness breath, wheezing chest tightness. One the pathophysiology was mediated overproduction pro-inflammatory asthmatic leukotrienes through arachidonic acid pathway catalyzed phospholipase A2 (PLA2 ) 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) enzymes. available conventional therapies treat may induce severe side effects on high cost. To overcome disadvantages improve current therapeutic strategy, we used natural products as an alternative therapy. Finger millet (Eleusine coracana) has been folk traditional medicinal practitioners various conditions. Previously, have found promising anti-inflammatory phytochemicals in finger bran (Fmb). Hence, aim present study identify characterize anti-asthmatic from Fmb objective test its activity ovalbumin induced mouse model. Phytochemical analysis revealed presence phenolics, saponins anthraquinone. Among all extracted fractions, methanol extract (FbMe) possessed strong vitro inhibiting PLA2 5-LOX enzymes activity. Further, vivo FbMe evaluated (50 mg/kg) significantly reduced lung fibrosis reducing deposition collagen tissue. It also inhibited well collected BAL fluid. This finding concludes anti-fibrotic phenolic compounds FbMe, which attenuates probably via inhibition
