We relate the phase separation observed in many crystals with pronounced electron correlations to regions of negative compressibility (NEC). They were found several models describing strong correlations. At low temperatures, these arise near chemical potentials corresponding change ground state site Hamiltonian. The NEC leads system into electron-rich and electron-poor domains. energy released course this is absorbed by phonons. Another role phonons give a definite form — stripes or checkerboards lattice distortions domains different concentrations. shape, direction periodicity such textures are determined wavevectors distortions, which most strongly scatter electrons.
