Photonic generation of switchable multi-format linearly chirped signals

A compact and cost-effective photonic approach for generating switchable multi-format linearly chirped signals is proposed experimentally demonstrated. The core component a dual-drive Mach–Zehnder modulator driven by coding sequence waveform. By properly setting the amplitudes of sequence, signal with different formats, including frequency shift keying (FSK), phase (PSK), dual-band PSK, FSK/PSK modulation can be generated. Experiments are conducted to verify feasibility scheme. Linearly above four formats successfully scheme features multiple high tunability based on structure, which has potential applications in modern multifunctional systems.
