Physical Activity Barriers in Danish Manual Wheelchair Users: A Cross-sectional Study

چکیده
AbstractObjective To identify physical activity barrier prevalence and severity among manual wheelchair users (MWCUs) test whether impact is associated with self-reported level (PAL). Design Cross-sectional survey. The Barriers to Physical Activity Questionnaire for People Mobility Impairments (BPAQ-MI) was translated from English Danish administered online. BPAQ-MI includes barriers within 4 domains 8 subdomains queries if an item hindered participation in the last 3 months (yes/no). If "yes," participants graded very small (1) big (5). Barrier scores were summed across domains. Setting General community. Participants MWCUs (N=181; 52.5% female, mean age, 48±14y.). Interventions Not applicable. Main Outcome Measures PAL rated not active extremely (10). Individual (frequency, %) (median [interquartile range]) computed. Unadjusted (Spearman rank correlations, domains, subdomains) adjusted (multivariate linear regression, associations between Results 5 most prevalent reported by ≥49.6% of (2 intrapersonal community). severe all had a median (1 organizational analysis showed that inversely total (r=−0.487, P<.01) overall (r=−0.241, "health" (r=−0.477, "beliefs/attitudes"(r=−0.307, subdomains. Adjustment shared variance revealed only subdomain score independently (P<.001). Conclusions Intrapersonal highly prevalent. Health-related related PAL. When community present, they as particularly severe. These results provide novel information can guide design future interventions aiming increase PALs.

Association between physical activity and menopausal symptoms in Saudi women: a cross-sectional study
Background: Menopause is the termination of a womanchr('39')s menstrual cycle for a year. In this condition, women’s health status declines due to hormonal changes and aging. Physical Activity (PA) is among the best available alternatives for managing menopause-related symptoms without any adverse effects. This study aimed to assess the relationship between PA and symptoms, such as fatigue, dep...
متن کاملBarriers to physical activity in older adults in Germany: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND Data on barriers to physical activity in older adults in Germany are scarce. The aim of this study was to analyse barriers to physical activity in a cohort of older adults, allowing comparisons between men and women, and age groups. METHODS 1,937 older adults with a median age of 77 (range 72-93) years (53.3% female) took part in the 7-year follow-up telephone interviews of the get...
متن کاملInfluence of Accelerometer Type and Placement on Physical Activity Energy Expenditure Prediction in Manual Wheelchair Users
PURPOSE To assess the validity of two accelerometer devices, at two different anatomical locations, for the prediction of physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE) in manual wheelchair users (MWUs). METHODS Seventeen MWUs (36 ± 10 yrs, 72 ± 11 kg) completed ten activities; resting, folding clothes, propulsion on a 1% gradient (3,4,5,6 and 7 km·hr-1) and propulsion at 4km·hr-1 (with an addit...

متن کاملUse of manual and powered wheelchair in children with cerebral palsy: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND Mobility is important for the cognitive and psychosocial development of children. Almost one third of children with cerebral palsy (CP) are non-ambulant. Wheelchairs can provide independent mobility, allowing them to explore their environment. Independent mobility is vital for activity and participation and reduces the dependence on caregivers. The purpose of this study was to descri...
