چکیده
Phytolith assemblages of Shorea robusta Gaertn. (Dipterocarpaceae), an important constituent tropical deciduous/semi-evergreen forests were studied from six different districts West Bengal, the western margin Bengal Basin. Since S. grows in mixed dry to wet deciduous and semi-evergreen can tolerate a wide variability temperature precipitation regimes, we aim understand if these climatic parameters drive any changes phytolith production pattern plant. Eleven morphotypes retrieved 13 plant specimens collected along gradients show considerable variations among specimens. thus have been subjected detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), which has helped indirectly influence parameter(s) on robusta, any. Further, canonical (CCA) performed data reveals how The provide basis spectra non-grass plants capture signal region could be used regional palaeoclimate reconstructions recovered fossil sediments.

متن کاملAscorbic acid metabolism in ageing recalcitrant sal (Shorea robusta Gaertn. f.) seeds.
Changes in ascorbate content and its enzymatic utilization pattern were studied in embryonic axes and cotyledons of sal seeds undergoing rapid loss of viability, at ambient conditions. Ascorbate levels were significantly higher initially in the embryonic axes (0.32 mg/g fresh weight) and cotyledons (0.21 mg/g fresh weight) of freshly mature, relatively hydrated (42.2% moisture content) and 100%...
متن کاملDo ponds cause arsenic-pollution of groundwater in the Bengal basin? An answer from West Bengal.
We report time-series data collected over two years for delta18O, delta2H, and Ca, Mg, K, and Cl, concentrations for 10 ponds in, and upflow of, an As-polluted region of southern West Bengal. We compare the compositions of As-polluted groundwaters from wells with the compositions of waters in ponds upflow, and within the range of influence, of the wells. Conservative tracers (delta18O, delta2H,...
متن کاملRegional hydrostratigraphy and groundwater flow modeling in the arsenic-affected areas of the western Bengal basin, West Bengal, India
The first documented interpretation of the regional-scale hydrostratigraphy and groundwater flow is presented for a ∼21,000-km area of the arsenic-affected districts of West Bengal [Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas (including Calcutta)], India. A hydrostratigraphic model demonstrates the presence of a continuous, semi-confined sand aquifer underlain by a thick clay aq...
