Pilot Study of Oxic–Anoxic Process under Low Dissolved Oxygen for Nitrogen Removal from Low COD/N Tropical Wastewater

چکیده
Conventionally, nitrification in biological nitrogen removal (BNR) requires high dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations (>2 mg L−1), making the process energy intensive. Recent studies have shown that efficient ammonium and reduction can be realized by operating at low DO (<1 L−1). In this study, low-DO oxic anoxic (low-DO OA) was operated a pilot-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) over 218 days to evaluate feasibility of from chemical demand-to-nitrogen ratio (COD/N) tropical municipal wastewater. The results revealed OA attained efficiency for (97%) total (TN) (80%) under an average concentration 0.6 L−1. effective TN is attributed occurrence simultaneous nitrification–denitrification (SND) conditions. Further tests slowly biodegradable COD (sbCOD) wastewater support denitrification post-anoxic phase, resulting rate. Compared with (2 conditions achieved 10% higher efficiency, similar efficiency. This study crucial promoting sustainability treatment plants treating COD/N

Performance of electrical stimulated anaerobic baffled reactor for removal of typical pollutants from low-strength municipal wastewater at low temperatures
Background: Although anaerobic system has been successfully used for treating the strong industrial wastewater, its efficiency for low-strength wastewater as municipal wastewater is not satisfying. This study aimed to enhance the capability of an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) for treating municipal wastewater. Methods: A 7-L ABR with 5 compartments was operated for a 287-day period fed with ...
متن کاملSuppressing Nitrite-oxidizing Bacteria Growth to Achieve Nitrogen Removal from Domestic Wastewater via Anammox Using Intermittent Aeration with Low Dissolved Oxygen
Achieving nitrogen removal from domestic wastewater using anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) has the potential to make wastewater treatment energy-neutral or even energy-positive. The challenge is to suppress the growth of nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB). This study presents a promising method based on intermittent aeration with low dissolved oxygen to limit NOB growth, thereby providing a...
متن کاملExperimental Study on Performance of Modified Hybrid Liquid Membrane Process for Removal of Cadmium from Wastewater
Liquid membrane processes have attracted many interests in recent years for removal of heavy metals such as cadmium from industrial wastewaters. In this study, a modified hybrid liquid membrane system is introduced. The setup is worked by applying the water-insoluble dioctyl phthalate as the organic solvent. N-octanol and tetra butyl ammonium bromide are added to the organic phase to increase t...
