Plasmonic hot carriers scratch the surface

نویسندگان

چکیده

Metal nanostructures capture light efficiently due to plasmonic enhancement and generate energetic electrons holes that can be used drive chemical reactions or transferred across metal–semiconductor interfaces for solar cells photodetectors. The overall efficiency of hot-carrier devices depends on the generated energy distribution, its evolution with transport through metal, and, most critically, metal surface interface. Here, we review mechanistic considerations, strategies, challenges efficient extraction, highlighting need new materials carriers minimal loss designed transfer them high probability.

Efficient plasmonic emission by the quantum Čerenkov effect from hot carriers in graphene

Graphene plasmons have been found to be an exciting plasmonic platform, thanks to their high field confinement and low phase velocity, motivating contemporary research to revisit established concepts in light-matter interaction. In a conceptual breakthrough over 80 years old, Čerenkov showed how charged particles emit shockwaves of light when moving faster than the phase velocity of light in a ...

Body surface area in dosing anticancer agents: scratch the surface!

Grochow et al. (1) questioned the use of body surface area in dose normalization more than a decade ago in this Journal. In this issue, Baker et al. (2) retrospectively assessed the pharmacokinetics of 33 investigational agents tested in phase I trials during the past decade as a function of body surface area in 1650 adult cancer patients. Based on their findings, they recommend that the practi...
