Point-defect-driven flattened polar phonon bands in fluorite ferroelectrics

چکیده

Abstract The scale-free ferroelectric polarization of fluorite M O 2 ( = Hf, Zr) due to flat polar phonon bands are promising for nonvolatile memories. Defects also widely introduced improve the emergent ferroelectricity. However, their roles still not fully understood at atomic-level. Here, we report a significant effect point-defect-driven flattening with more modes and contribution in doped . La-doped can be significantly flattened, compared pure ones. lower energy barrier larger V -only cases suggest that local lattice distortion should balanced high-performance work is believed bridge relation between point defects generally enhanced induced ferroelectricity ferroelectrics atomic-level inspire further property optimization via defect-engineering.

Field-induced percolation of polar nanoregions in relaxor ferroelectrics.

A first-principles-based effective Hamiltonian is used to investigate low-temperature properties of Ba(Zr,Ti)O(3) relaxor ferroelectrics under an increasing dc electric field. This system progressively develops an electric polarization that is highly nonlinear with the dc field. This development leads to a maximum of the static dielectric response at a critical field, E(th), and involves four d...

Origin of interfacial polar order in incipient ferroelectrics

There are ample experimental evidences indicating that the ferroelastic domain walls of incipient ferroelectrics, such as SrTiO3 and CaTiO3, are polar. The emergence of such interfacial polar order at a domain wall is exciting and believed to arise from the coupling between a primary order parameter, such as a strain or an antiferrodistortive (AFD) order parameter, and polarization. There have ...

Another Flattened Dark Halo: Polar Ring Galaxy A01360801

Knowledge of the shape of dark matter halos is critical to our understanding of galaxy formation, dynamics, and of the nature of dark matter itself. Polar ring galaxies (PRGs) | early-type galaxies deened by their outer rings of gas, dust and stars on orbits nearly perpendicular to those of the central host | provide a rare probe of the vertical-to-radial axis ratio (q = c=a) of dark halos. We ...

COMPUTATIONAL ENUMERATION OF POINT DEFECT CLUSTERS IN DOUBLE- LATTICE CRYSTALS

The cluster representation matrices have already been successfully used to enumerate close-packed vacancy clusters in all single-lattice crystals [I, 2]. Point defect clusters in double-lattice crystals may have identical geometry but are distinct due to unique atomic postions enclosing them. The method of representation matrices is extended to make it applicable to represent and enumerate ...
