Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Water Bodies of Dong Lake and Tangxun Lake, China: Spatial Distribution, Potential Sources and Risk Assessment

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of highly toxic organic pollutants. At present, there has only been limited research into PAH contamination in Tangxun Lake and Dong Lake, which the first second largest urban inland lakes China, respectively. This study investigated concentration, spatial distribution, sources, ecological risks PAHs water from Lake. The focus this is to use models analyze sources PAHs, as well their potential toxicity humans, bodies performed liquid–liquid extraction extract lake samples using dichloromethane then used gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) quantitatively samples. total concentration ∑16PAHs showed high variability among different sampling points, ranging 12.92 989.09 ng/L, with an arithmetic mean 121.97 ng/L. composition was mainly concentrated at low molecular weight (>70%). distributions studies, combined positive matrix factorization (PMF), indicate that oil coal combustion main model PMF succeeded identifying quantifying five similar contributions: petroleum products, heavy burning, combustion, traffic emissions, natural mixed. According equivalency (TEQ) lifelong cancer risk (ILCR) research, environment may be more toxic, carcinogenic pollution humans relatively inferior.
