Possible Nonlinear Anomalous Thermoelectric Effect in Organic Massive Dirac Fermion System

نویسندگان

چکیده

We propose a novel current-induced thermoelectric phenomenon, the nonlinear anomalous Ettingshausen effect (AEE), at zero magnetic field in inversion-asymmetric conductors. As an example, we discuss weak charge ordering state layered organic conductor alpha-(BEDT-TTF)2I3, which is two-dimensional massive Dirac fermion system with pair of tilted cones. The AEE analogue Hall effect, recently observed and these two effects generally appear simultaneously. generates transverse heat current, exhibits rectifying characteristics, namely unidirectionality even under AC current.

Anomalous thermoelectric transport of Dirac particles in graphene.

We report a thermoelectric study of graphene in both zero and applied magnetic fields. As a direct consequence of the linear dispersion of massless particles, we find that the Seebeck coefficient Sxx diverges with 1/sqrt[|n_{2D}|], where n_{2D} is the carrier density. We observe a very large Nernst signal S_{xy} ( approximately 50 microV/K at 8 T) at the Dirac point, and an oscillatory dependen...

Berry-phase effect in anomalous thermoelectric transport.

We develop a theory of the Berry-phase effect in anomalous transport in ferromagnets driven by statistical forces such as the gradient of temperature or chemical potential. Here a charge Hall current arises from the Berry-phase correction to the orbital magnetization rather than from the anomalous velocity, which does not exist in the absence of a mechanical force. A finite-temperature formula ...

Universal thermoelectric effect of Dirac fermions in graphene.

We numerically study the thermoelectric transports of Dirac fermions in graphene in the presence of a strong magnetic field and disorder. We find that the thermoelectric transport coefficients demonstrate universal behavior depending on the ratio between the temperature and the width of the disorder-broadened Landau levels (LLs). The transverse thermoelectric conductivity alpha{xy} reaches a un...

Massive Dirac Fermion Observed in Lanthanide-Doped Topological Insulator Thin Films

The breaking of time reversal symmetry (TRS) in three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators (TIs), and thus the opening of a 'Dirac-mass gap' in the linearly dispersed Dirac surface state, is a prerequisite for unlocking exotic physical states. Introducing ferromagnetic long-range order by transition metal doping has been shown to break TRS. Here, we present the study of lanthanide (Ln) doped...

Tunable Dirac Fermion Dynamics in Topological Insulators

Three-dimensional topological insulators are characterized by insulating bulk state and metallic surface state involving relativistic Dirac fermions which are responsible for exotic quantum phenomena and potential applications in spintronics and quantum computations. It is essential to understand how the Dirac fermions interact with other electrons, phonons and disorders. Here we report super-h...
