Post hoc Uncertainty Quantification for Remote Sensing Observing Systems

چکیده
This article sets forth a practical methodology for uncertainty quantification of physical state estimates derived from remote sensing observing systems. Remote instruments observe parts the electromagnetic spectrum and use computational algorithms to infer underlying true states. In current practice, many sources are not accounted in this process, leading underestimates uncertainties on quantities interest. We propose procedure that combines Monte Carlo simulation experiments with statistical modeling approximate distributions unknown states given point those Our method is carried out post hoc, is, after operational processing step. demonstrate using four months data NASA's Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 mission compare it validation measurements Total Column Observing Network.
