Pre-service Elementary Teachers’ Reasoning Types of Generalization and Justification on a Figural Pattern Task

The purpose of this study is to examine how pre-service elementary teachers generalize a non-linear figural pattern task and justify their generalizations. More specifically, focuses on strategies reasoning types employed by throughout generalization justification processes. Data were collected from 32 who enrolled in the Elementary Teacher Education program university, Turkey. During data collection process, these first asked then To analyze teachers’ written answers for considering both justification, reduction constant comparative methodologies used (Miles, Huberman, & Saldana, 2014). findings indicated that better able find rule using explicit strategy. Most resorted reasoning; however, there few referred deductive reasoning. In addition, articulated appeared be more successful justifying developed rules deductively.
