Probing Cosmic Reionization and Molecular Gas Growth with TIME

چکیده
Line intensity mapping (LIM) provides a unique and powerful means to probe cosmic structures by measuring the aggregate line emission from all galaxies across redshift. The method is complementary conventional galaxy redshift surveys that are object based demand exquisite point-source sensitivity. Tomographic Ionized-carbon Mapping Experiment (TIME) will measure star formation rate during reionization observing redshifted [C ii] 158 ?m (6 ? z 9) in LIM regime. TIME simultaneously study abundance of molecular gas era peak rotational CO lines emitted at 0.5 2. We present modeling framework predicts constraining power on number observables, including luminosity function auto- cross-correlation spectra, synergies with external tracers. Based an optimized survey strategy fiducial model parameters informed existing observations, we forecast constraints physical quantities relevant evolution, such as escape fraction ionizing photons reionization, faint-end slope high redshift, density noon. discuss how these can advance our understanding cosmological evolution two distinct epochs for TIME, starting 2021, they could be improved future phases experiment.

Intensity mapping of molecular gas during cosmic reionization
I present a simple calculation of the expected mean CO brightness temperature from the large scale distribution of galaxies during cosmic reionization. The calculation is based on the cosmic star formation rate density required to reionize, and keep ionized, the intergalactic medium, and uses standard relationships between star formation rate, IR luminosity, and CO luminosity derived for star f...
متن کاملCosmic Reionization Redux
We show that numerical simulations of reionization that resolve the Lyman Limit systems (and, thus, correctly count absorptions of ionizing photons) have converged to about 10% level for 5 < z < 6.2 and are in reasonable agreement (within 10%) with the SDSS data in this redshift interval. The SDSS data thus constraint the redshift of overlap of cosmic Hii regions to zOVL = 6.1 ± 0.15. At higher...
متن کاملPhysics of Cosmic Reionization
The study of cosmic reionization has acquired increasing significance over the last few years because of various reasons. On the observational front, we now have good quality data of different types at high redshifts (quasar absorption spectra, radiation backgrounds at different frequencies, cosmic microwave background polarization, Lyα emitters and so on). Theoretically, the importance of the ...
متن کاملSimulating Cosmic Reionization
The first billion years of the history of the Universe, commonly referred to as the Cosmic Dark Ages and the Epoch of Reionization, constitute a crucial missing link in our understanding of the evolution of the intergalactic medium and the formation and evolution of galaxies. As gravity gradually amplified the small density contrasts in this darkmatter-dominated universe, structure arose hierar...
متن کاملProbing reionization with Lyman α emission lines
Lyman α emission from high-redshift galaxies may be a powerful probe of the ionization history of the IGM at z > 6: the observed Lyman α emission line is sensitive to the neutral fraction of IGM hydrogen in the range 0.1–1. We present calculations of observed Lyman α emission lines from z > 6 galaxies, illustrating the effect of varying the many free parameters associated with the emitting gala...
