Processing Matters in Nutrient-Matched Laboratory Diets for Mice—Energy and Nutrient Digestibility

چکیده

Starch gelatinization is a major determinant of carbohydrate digestibility and varies with diet processing. Laboratory rodent diets are often marketed as identical, but sold in different forms, regardless the markedly higher starch extruded than pelleted diets. Our hypothesis was that this would impact energy nutrient mice fed pellets or extrudate, respectively. Trial 1 showed feeding C57BL/6 standard maintenance form results significantly organic matter, energy, carbohydrates identical form. The replication experiment, however, revealed variation between batches same regarding total dietary fiber contents. Given significant differences potential impacts on utilization, intestinal microbiome, intermediary metabolism, trials performed differently processed not comparable. This might partly explain failures to reproduce results, especially gastrointestinal microbiome research. Considering experimental animals, degree should be declared information for laboratory animal observed acceptable.

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Microbial Decontamination, Crude Nutrient Content, and Mineral Nutrient Composition of Laboratory Animal Diets

Laboratory animal models are an important part of test design. Certain conditions such as microbial contamination in diets of these models could affect the results of experiments. One of the most important routes that predispose to contamination is generated through feeding of laboratory animals. This study aimed to show the effect of gamma irradiation in reducing bacteria concentrations,...

Effect of thymol and carvacrol on nutrient digestibility in rams fed high or low concentrate diets

Published data on the effects of essential oils (EO) on in vivo nutrient digestibility in sheep are contradictory. In 2 experiments, the effect of thymol and carvacrol on nutrient digestibility was studied in sheep fed with high (70%) or low (52%) concentrate diets, using incomplete Latin Square designs. The essential oils were mixed with the concentrate portion of the diet at the rate of 0.0, ...

Conversion efficiency and nutrient digestibility of certain seaweed diets by laboratory reared Labeo rohita (Hamilton).

Impact of three different types of seaweed diets on growth, feed utilization and nutrient digestibility of L. rohita was studied for 120 days. The seaweed diet fed fishes, especially Ulva based diet showed comparatively higher growth and weight increment. Good food conversion ratio, food assimilation efficiency, protein efficiency ratio and better nutrient digestibility were recorded for seawee...

Nutrient Digestibility in Horses

Many equine nutrient requirements are based on certain assumptions about how well horses digest and absorb nutrients. Unfortunately, a great many questions remain unanswered about nutrient digestibility in horses. How well do horses utilize different sources of nutrients? What nutrients interact with one another to affect digestibility? Over the past five years, Kentucky Equine Research has con...

DDGS: Energy and nutrient content and digestibility

The concentration of gross energy in distillers dried grain with solubles (DDGS) is greater than in corn. However, because of a lower digestibility of energy in DDGS than in corn, there is no difference in the concentration of digestible and metabolizable energy between DDGS and corn. The apparent and standardized ileal digestibility of amino acids in DDGS does vary among sources but, with the ...
