Processing Route Optimization and Characterization of Al6063–SiCp Metal-Matrix Composite Sheets

The target of this study is to develop routes for processing Al–SiCp (SiC particulate) sheets with improved microstructures; namely, the uniform distribution SiCp and minimized porosity throughout whole material, thereby improving its mechanical properties. composites reinforced 5, 10, 15 vol.% SiC having three average sizes 29, 17, 8.5 µm were produced using a semi-automated stir-casting machine; finally, bars hot rolled get final sheet dimensions. rolling steps performed based on results thermomechanical simulations cast blocks. first applied according safe schedule avoid cracking via encouraging dynamic recrystallization. last improve hardness strength metal matrix (MMCs). A refinement in grain size from an 420 as-cast condition about 85 after was observed. Some heterogeneity observed where regions larger, elongated grains associated zones depleted by reinforcement. Reinforcing led small increase tensile 10–20 MPa, further 60 MPa 110 5 10 conditions, respectively, T6 heat treatment.
