Production of small powder-stabilized droplets using superhydrophobic mesh

چکیده

Massive production of tiny droplets is critical for industrial processes and biomedical applications. Such are formed by splitting the bulk liquid (top-down) or condensation to grow droplet (bottom-up). Various generation methods have been reported; however, generated stick contacting substrate and/or coalesce into a larger droplet, limiting handling flexibility size uniformity. Herein, powder-stabilized were massively applying pulse pressure “powdered” superhydrophobic mesh on water pool. The stabilized fine hydrophobic powder, namely, marble, which does not contact materials. effects size, wettability, powdering, applied formation dynamics investigated. depended hydrophilic mesh. When gradually sank pool apply quasi-static hydro-pressure, penetrated did split, continuous large was formed. However, tapping pulsed hydro-pressure induced multiple split through penetration. Without coalesced form droplets. when powdered, coated with powder preventing their coalescence.

Small droplets on superhydrophobic substrates.

We investigate the wetting behavior of liquid droplets on rough hydrophobic substrates for the case of droplets that are of comparable size to the surface asperities. Using a simple three-dimensional analytical free-energy model, we have shown in a recent letter [M. Gross, F. Varnik, and D. Raabe, EPL 88, 26002 (2009)] that, in addition to the well-known Cassie-Baxter and Wenzel states, there e...

Marangoni convection in droplets on superhydrophobic surfaces

We consider a small droplet of water sitting on top of a heated superhydrophobic surface. A toroidal convection pattern develops in which fluid is observed to rise along the surface of the spherical droplet and to accelerate downwards in the interior towards the liquid/solid contact point. The internal dynamics arise due to the presence of a vertical temperature gradient; this leads to a gradie...

Evaporation of droplets on superhydrophobic surfaces: surface roughness and small droplet size effects.

Evaporation of a sessile droplet is a complex, nonequilibrium phenomenon. Although evaporating droplets upon superhydrophobic surfaces have been known to exhibit distinctive evaporation modes such as a constant contact line (CCL), a constant contact angle (CCA), or both, our fundamental understanding of the effects of surface roughness on the wetting transition remains elusive. We show that the...

Drag reduction properties of superhydrophobic mesh pipes

Even with the recent extensive study into superhydrophobic surfaces, the fabrication of such surfaces on the inside walls of a pipe remains challenging. In this work we report a convenient bi-layered pipe design using a thin superhydrophobic metallic mesh formed into a tube, supported inside another pipe. A flow system was constructed to test the fabricated bi-layer pipeline, which allowed for ...

Temperature-Induced Coalescence of Colliding Binary Droplets on Superhydrophobic Surface

This report investigates the impact of droplet temperature on the head-on collision of binary droplets on a superhydrophobic surface. Understanding droplet collision is critical to many fundamental processes and industrial applications. There are many factors, including collision speed, collision angle, and droplet composition, that influence the outcome of the collision between binary droplets...
